
“Balkan Jazz” project is participated by Yıldız İbrahimova, the strong voice of Balkan Jazz, and Serkan Çağrı, an innovative name in Turkish clarinet world, aims to reveal the cultural colorfulness that spans from Anatolia to Balkans. Repertoire, mainly consisting of jazz adaptations of authentic Balkan music pieces, is knitted with improvisations on ethnic rhythm structure. Moreover, some examples of İbrahimova’s several-year long researches on Anatolian music is also featured.
A major part of the performance is based on improvisations of Serkan Çağrı, Yıldız İbrahimova and other musicians, where they present their virtuosity presented in Balkan and jazz music mixed together. Using their creativity at peek level, they take the audience to vivid and energetic moments and sentimental minutes between times.
Concert, where the repertoire is from gypsy romances to anonym Anatolian folk songs is also noteworthy with some surprises in it: Serkan Çağrı also shows his virtuosity on “Chalumeau”, a baroque era instrument defined as the ancestor of clarinet; he will find a meeting place of familiar emotions coming from far lands.
Applauded for minutes standing during their Germany concerts at 2007 and featured by German press with great praise, the duo drawn a great plaudit with their harmony and creativity.
